Obituary for Reverend Doctor Charles F. Blalock, Sr.

The Reverend Charles F. Blalock, Sr.  94, departed this life on September 6, 2025, at Emory Palliative Care Center, Atlanta, Georgia. He was born on March 3, 1931, to the late William Eldridge Blalock, Sr. and Mattie B. Wilder in Raleigh, North Carolina. Chuckie “B”, as he was well known, was educated in the public schools of Raleigh, matriculating at Washington High School in 1948. After completing his military duty obligations, he was employed by Laury Associates, owners of radio stations in Louisiana, Arkansas and North Carolina, eventually becoming Vice-President and General Manager of radio station WLLE in Raleigh, North Carolina.Chuckie accepted the call of Jesus and entered the service of the Lord in 1975. He delivered his initial sermon, Sunday, October 12, 1975, at Saint Matthew AME Church in Raleigh, NC.In 1980, he was ordained at Bethel AME Church in Greensboro, NC at the Western NC Annual Conference by the late Bishop Harrison H. Bryant, and assigned to pastor Union Bethel AME Church in Cary, NC, followed by assignments at Bethel, Reidsvillle; Union Bethel, Winston Salem; Willow Tree AME, Morganton, NC; Lincolnville AME, Raleigh, NC; Gaines Chapel, He was preceded in death by his brothers, William E. Blalock, Jr. (Bunky), William Henry Wilder, Joseph A. Wilder, and Kenneth S. Wilder and his sister, Eleanor B. Randolf.He is survived by his wife, Wilhelmina “Sue” Blalock; four sons, Anthony (Virginia) Blalock Sr., Jerome Blalock, William Hull, Darren Elis Blalock and Charles Frederick Blalock; three daughters, Crystal Kennedy, Sharon Specks and Chandelier (Willis) Smartt; 26 grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren; two brothers, Carroll Wilder of Charlotte, NC and Cleo Wilder of New Rochelle, NY; a first cousin, Hattie Mae Moore of Raleigh, NC; a sister in law, Cora Wilder of Nyack, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and ministerial associates. 


Receiving family and friends Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m at  Antioch A.M.E. Church Inc. 765 S. Hairston Rd. Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
