Obituary for Bernetta M. Travis
Mrs Beretta M. Travis was born in Marianna, Florida to James and Iola McBride on December 27, 1932 and made her transition to heaven on May 10, 2013. Bernetta was married to Harris Travis and from this union they had 4 children. She graduated from Florida A&M University and became a math teacher. She taught for 30 years and retired in 1994 after 19 years with Henry County School District. Throughout retirement she continued her love of teaching as a volunteer tutor. She served for 47 years as an active member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the following organizations: Pastor's Aide Society, Matrons Circle, Women's Ministry, Trailblazers and Sunday School Teacher. In addition, she was a member of the National Education Association of Teachers. She has enjoyed long term friendship with Pelham and Mary Williams, Sadie Pearson and Hilda Holt. Bernetta is survived by children, Gail Travis, Stephanie Brown, Melvin Travis (Mariah), Reginald Travis (Wendy), adopted daughter, Nikki Butterfield, grandchildren, Katisha, Renee, Garet, Danielle, Morgan, Taylor, Benjamin, Marissa, Matthew, Casey, Brittany, siblings, Louise Wingate, Loretta Esau, Charles McBride (Erestine), Harvey McBride, Daniel McBride (Delia), Iola Beckford (Donald), Nathaniel McBride (Virginia), Gloria Jean McBride, a host of nieces and nephews. She spent a lifetime dedicated to the Lord and now is resting in Glory with him.
